The Heathmere Football Clubs 2010 U16 side made history on Sunday by defeating grand final favourites South Portland in what was a great display of football. As described in the Portland Observer in the lead up to the grand final, Heathmere Football Club had struggled for some time to get momentum with their U16 side and in the early stages of the 2009 season looked like they may not even be able to field a side. But with much hard work and commitment from a number of people the club has grown from strength to strength and the results were evident on Grand final day. In what was a close match all day, the Mere's were ahead by five points at the final siren to take home their first ever U16 premiership.
